The STYROBET solution to floors on open soil

As regards insulation, a floor on open soil is a very different matter to one above a crawl space or basement. The (infinitely) thick layer of sand under the floor slab also works as a floor isolator. Heat loss mainly takes place at the outer edge of the floor of the home. As a result, for a floor on open soil with the same energy loss, thinner insulation on the insulating screed can suffice, or in very many cases even just an insulating screed.

In the technical information under the item Insulation value, a number of examples of floor solutions are listed with their insulation performance.
