For the exfoliation of vermiculite a large oven at a relatively high temperature is required (750 to 1100°C).

The installation in Belgium is a unique electric oven. It was (and still is) the first electric vermiculite oven in the world. The oven has a capacity of 450 kg per hour; this equals approximately 65 m³ of exfoliated vermiculite per day (16 hours)

The oven regulation is very precise and fully computer controlled. As a result the electric energy can be optimally exploited and a constant vermiculite quality is ensured..
